Almost all of us are bombarded by a barrage of spam emails everyday i.e., from senders we never knew or subscribed to.

What happens when we click to see the content ?
At times, we do check what’s this email about, what’s in it and in response to your action the sender knows that you have bothered reading their email. So just now the bad guys managed to verify your email address. This is all possible because of the images referenced in that email body were downloaded. One would argue what’s wrong if my email is verified? Well, in the Dark web (underworld of the Internet) someone is creating a record of you and building your history. Slowly your name, email, phone number , credit card number etc. is collected and sold to criminals willing to exploit you using your data.
What happens when we click through links in spam emails?
Coming back to the opened spam email, some of us having a bad day (how much so ever qualified we are) would get irritated and read the email content to investigate what’s in the f** email?? Eventually you could fall in the trap by clicking a link at the bottom which says “to stop receiving emails click the unsubscribe link“. If you fall for it then most likely you open the backdoor for the bad guys and let them drop a dangerous payload (Malware) on to your device. This could be sufficient enough for the bad guys to take over your device and data… Boom!! You are caught off guard…
Don’ts of Spam emails…
Never Ever click links on the spam emails or emails from senders that you don’t know. The Cyber security term for trapping innocent users via emails is called as Phishing. There are targeted attacks on individuals making them feel that they know you, this sophisticated attack is called as SpearPhishing.
Ignorance is the best policy when it comes to Spam emails. You can quickly verify by checking the sender’s email address however if you don’t know then, never ever click any links in emails.
Safe emailing ๐
